![]() Sorry, you're getting a little history first. Scroll down for TL;DR: Mystery and Horror, LLC was originally created for the stories Gwen Mayo and Sarah Glenn write, especially the ones we write together. When we filed the LLC, same-sex couples could not marry and we could not pass intellectual property to one another unless it was contained in a business (not married, not related by blood, etc.). Then, when our publisher closed ops (for very good reasons), we decided to re-publish the books we received the rights back for, and it grew into publishing the stories of other authors who had written for the same publisher. MAHLLC became a press, and we have been publishing for a dozen years now. It has been a great honor to publish anthologies and novels featuring very talented authors, two Sisters in Crime chapters, and the Strangely Funny series that has been our flagship product. Unfortunately, mundane life began slamming us around pretty hard last year. Sarah's mother, who has been in care for several years, had a serious downturn in health. It's taken up some of our time, and the associated depression has made writing and other creative work difficult. We also live in the Tampa Bay area, and we've had to evacuate multiple times due to the increasingly powerful hurricanes forming in the Gulf. Last year was the worst - our home was damaged and multiple repairs had to be done. We were still luckier than many. We set a goal of getting out of Florida before the next hurricane season, and we are in the process of moving to Georgia now. This will take up more of our time, especially since we will still be coming down to check on Sarah's mother and to work with our Sisters in Crime chapter. What's going to happen now: We still plan to publish Strangely Funny XI, already in galley form, but we've decided to put the series on hiatus. Sarah has already begun contacting the authors who submitted to SF XII. Our previously published books will still be available for sale, with the exception of a couple of novels that have been reclaimed by their authors. We are open-minded about publishing new novels that were already in a series, but it will be after life stops being crazy. Some of the older anthologies may become Kindle only, especially since the rights have reverted back to their authors. If a print copy still exists, though, authors can get copies at half cover price. Thank you for coming down this road with us.
